Jenny Reed is an interdisciplinary artist and educator who specializes in ceramics. She received her BFA from Northern Kentucky University and MFA from Indiana University Bloomington. She has taught in colleges, a secondary school, and community centers throughout the southern midwest and in Baltimore, where she now resides. Jenny was awarded the Lormina Salter Fellowship at Baltimore Clayworks in 2020. She is currently creating work for an upcoming community project made possible by Maryland State Arts Council. In addition to her art practice, Jenny enjoys reading graphic novels and gardening. Her current muse is Ben, her tubby orange tabby.

Aaron Caldwell (b.1996, Fresno, CA) received his BA in studio art from SIU Carbondale, and his MS in Art Education from Illinois State. He was a 2021 Ceramics Monthly Emerging Artist, and organizes for Queeramics, a platform dedicated to visibility/opportunities to queer ceramicists. He is currently an elementary art teacher in Baltimore, Maryland.

Sallah Jenkins is an accomplished ceramic artist based in Baltimore. She has taught youth and adults of all ages for 22 years and brings a wealth of expertise and technique to the classroom. MFA sculpture Reinhart school of sculpture at the Maryland Institute College of Art.

Savannah Imani Wade is a multi-disciplinary artist, performer, and educator from Washington, D.C., residing in Baltimore, Maryland. Wade is a 2021 BFA candidate at Maryland Institute College of Art, studying General Fine Arts under the Eddie C. &S ylvia Brown Scholarship. Wade’s work is an exploration of self, predominantly through the intersections of ancestral spiritual wisdom, feminine and Mother archetypes, and dream analysis. Wade’s work integrates performance elements, such as music, dance, mask-making, and puppetry to tell a continuously growing story of healing, reclamation of power, and joy within herself.

Jasmyne Brawner was born and raised on the Eastern Shore of MD, she currently resides in Baltimore, MD and graduated from Morgan State University in 2015 with her Bachelor of Science in Health Education. She has been practicing yoga for about 4 years and has recently become a Certified Yoga Instructor specializing in Hot, Vinyasa and Restorative Yoga Flows. Jasmyne’s goal is to lead by example to show those in her community that we are capable of healing self.

In her words: “My love for yoga has always been from the perspective of liberation. I believe that colonization cut a lot of us off from our roots and history. Practices like yoga and mindfulness, even dancing and drumming, help us to heal from that. When we begin remembering our lineage and said history, we begin to awaken the DNA and cells thus, increasing our capacity to heal and be free.”

Iqrama Muhammad is the owner of the PEACES Collective, an eclectic collection of handcrafted clothing, accessories and home decor. She uses the art of sewing to re-fashion new and used fabrics into original designs. She is the author of Sewing for the Soul, a curriculum designed to introduce sewing to school aged children in the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area. Ms. Muhammad is a member of the American Sewing Guild.

Nadia Nazar is an 18 year-old artist and climate justice organizer based in Baltimore, MD. She uses paint, animation, graphic design, illustration, drawing, film, and music in her artwork. Her work centers around identity, perspective, and the climate crisis. Her portraiture surrounds her observations of those around her, and of herself. She is currently a student at the Maryland Institute College of Art. Nadia is also the Co-Founder, Co-Executive Director, and Art Director of the youth led Climate Organization, Zero Hour.

Ernestine Wilkinson is one of the most established and accomplished Hand Dancers in Baltimore City. She is a certified Hand Dance Instructor and received an additional certificate through the Smooth and Easy Institute. In her dancing career she won two national championships, in addition to second and third place wins in the national championships.

Lauren Siegel is a licensed social worker who works with arts organizations and neighborhood associations across the city in creating art collaboratively with youth and adults. Siegel has worked with homeless, disabled, addicted, mentally Ill and disadvantaged people in Baltimore City throughout her careers.

Accomplished ceramic artists and community based artist, Herb Massie has over 30 year of art teaching experience in Baltimore. He has artwork in the Walters Art Museum’s permanent collection among several outdoor mosaic installations across Baltimore. Mr. Massie teaches currently teaches ceramic classes for ChildFirst, Zeta Center, Jubilee Arts among others

Let the music play and Terry will let the music groove her. Terry loves all forms of dance. Her interest in line dancing began 6 years ago. In the fall of 2016 after attending various classes she started attending line dance classes at the Jubilee Arts Center. While learning and developing she became confident enough to accept the role as assistant line dance instructor at the Baltimore City Department of Social Services (BCDSS). Today, she is the wellness program line dance instructor for BCDSS and St. Paul Institutional Baptist Church.
In 2018, Terry started Terilocs Wellness Operation (T.W.O.) a 90-day wellness challenge program to jumpstart people towards healthy living.
Terry, believes line dancing is a great form of exercise, fellowship and fun.

Sarah Leiva (she/her) is a sophomore interdisciplinary sculpture major at Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, MD. She was born and raised in Miami, FL and has an interest in arts education, costume design, and performance art. Sarah has been teaching private art lessons since 2016 and was an art director for Genesis Hopeful Haven over the summer of 2021. Her favorite color is orange and her dream is to own several chickens.

Past Teaching Artists

Rheagen (she/they) is a designer and creator with a Graphic Design BFA and Book Arts concentration from the Maryland Institute College of Art. Her work centers around connection, inclusion, and education through writing, design, and bookmaking. In her free time, you can find them sunbathing on their rooftop deck or practicing tarot at their altar.

Janiyah M. Johnson has been dancing for 12 years and has been teaching for 4 years. She began dancing at Nferno Dance Company and later started dancing at B.Funk Dance Company. Janiyah then went to attend George Washington Carver Center for the Arts and Technology as a dance major. She danced under the direction of Laura Edwards, Sean Bankhead, Jaquel Knight, Maria Royals, Stephanie Powell, and more. She now continues as a professional dancer working with well re-known choreographers for a variety of performances and shows. Janiyah has trained in multiple styles of dance from jazz, tap, ballet, and contemporary. Though, she mainly focuses on commercial hip-hop dance.

Alexa Oliveira is an interdisciplinary artist & writer, with a BA in art history from St. Mary’s College of California. She has worked as a teaching artist for adult & youth programming at community art organizations in the Bay Area of California. Currently part of the MFA Community Arts program at MICA, Alexa now resides in Baltimore.

S. M. Prescott hopes that through cultivating a physical sacred space, their artwork will provide space for mourning, healing, questioning, and growing. Prescott’s practice is informed by a deep curiosity that hopes to leave nothing to assumption.

Prescott received their Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art from Louisiana Tech University and a Master of Fine Art in Community Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art. In 2019 they were a Libby Bowerman Fellow at Keswick Multi Care Center. Prescott currently resides in Baltimore. You can often find them in a park with their dog Parish, or on roller skates.

Tremontenia “Mama T” Morgan has been dancing and teaching African Dance for over 30 years and has taught at Jubilee Arts for four years. Morgan has danced with Nazu Dance Company, Resurrection Dance Company and XMI Dance Company. As a member of the Nazu Dance Company, she performed for the World Bank, at an Inaugural Ball for Barack Obama, in Canada and France. She recently started her own dance company, Spiritual Creation Dance Company.

Catherine Leberg is a multimedia artist and sculptor with a BFA in sculpture from Washington University in Saint Louis. Her work centers around the relationship between human beings and our environment, creating the tools through which the two can interact, and addressing environmental racism and injustice. Catherine is currently pursuing an MFA in Community Arts at the Maryland Institute College of the Arts, and during her residency at Jubilee she will share the art skills that youth can use to tell their own story, and define themselves.

Zerael Kelley is trained in many forms of dance. She was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. Zerael has been dancing since the age of 3 at Baltimore Ballet School and started attending Jubilee Arts for ballet at the age 7. At the end of 2018 fall session, She was given the opportunity to be Assistant Ballet Teacher. Zerael is now our Ballet Teacher!

Carolyn Phillips has worked at Baltimore Clayworks for four years as a Community Arts teacher, teaching at multiple sites including Jubilee Arts, Robert Coleman Elementary, Chinquapin Middle School, Pimlico Road, and many others. She is a retired Baltimore City art teacher, certified to teach K-12 and taught a variety of media for 30 years.

Desiree Thaniel is a muralist, painter, and educator. The purpose of her artwork is to send a message of the importance of Black Women and that there is space for them to have vulnerability, healing, and softness. She has been painting for almost ten years and loves to show others that they have what it takes to create too. After being introduced to community engagement at MICA she has been involved in local organizations such as 901 Arts and later the Youth Rising Coalition and Bmore Blxck. Her goals are to paint murals around the world, and to teach self confidence and healing through art while also exploring the interests of those around her. All of which are used as forms of activism to create a more accepting and equitable society.

Mika Eubanks is a Designer and Artist who received her MFA in Costume Design at Yale School of Drama (’19), and her BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art (’11). Hailing from Baltimore, Mika has worked at Center Stage, the Hippodrome, Morgan State University, and Jubilee Arts. Nationally She has designed shows in St. Luis, New York, California, and Connecticut where she received the Connecticut Critic Circle Award for outstanding costume design.

Currently earnings his Masters of Arts in Teaching at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Wallace is an accomplished local Baltimore city painter and educator. He has exhibited his artwork across the city and earned several notable art awards and grants.

Davis comes to the Jubilee Arts team as a dance instructor who has taught dance and learning through play across Baltimore city. Her resume includes leading the dance team Dynamic Force and leading active recess through Playworks! organization among other organizations and Baltimore city schools. She is currently a pre-k and kindergarten Creative Movement Instructor at at The Bel-Air Edison School.

Frances Wertimer is a painter, mixed media artist and educator. She is currently an MFA candidate in the Community Arts program at the Maryland Institute College of the Arts. She grew up in New York City where she began getting involved with social justice and community projects as a teenager. She received her BA in Philosophy from Skidmore College and taught English and Art in New Orleans before moving to Baltimore. She enjoys working with youth because of their fresh perspective and unique ability to create positive change.

Jasmine Jackson is originally from Chesapeake, VA and moved to Baltimore, MD at age 9 where she began her dance training at Inertia Performing Arts. She then continued her education at Patapsco High School Center of the Arts where she explored dance through various styles such as ballet, modern, jazz, tap, african, and a little flamingo. Jasmine then graduated and continued her dance education at Shenandoah University in which she minored in dance and majored in early education. She has also taught at Inertia Performing Arts and various after school programs in Baltimore City over the years. In addition to dancing Jasmine teaches in Early Education as a full time job since the age of 16 and dancing with 13:46 Dance Ensemble since January 2017.

Anika is a Brooklyn-born graphic designer, visual artist and color enthusiast. As CEO of New Africa Designs, she has over 15 years of experience providing design solutions to businesses, organizations, conferences and events throughout the country. Anika also illustrates and designs greeting cards, coloring books and gift items featuring her original artwork. As an artist, her goal is to create images that INSPIRE, EMPOWER & UPLIFT.

Dominique Butler is a painter and educator who primarily works in gouache and oil. She grew up in a small farm town in northern Vermont and currently resides in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her Bachelor’s of Art in Drawing, Painting, and Art History from Drew University in 2017. Her recent work revolves around viewing nature through the eyes of a person of color. Her paintings are captured images of the environment that are often overlooked. These pieces touch upon the distinct disconnection between black bodies and the great outdoors; prompting the viewer to question why nature, outdoor recreation, and environmentalism are white-dominated.

I’yana McNeill has been dancing for 13 years and has been teaching for 3 years. She began dancing at Rayn Fall Dance Studio and later attended Baltimore School for the Arts for high school as a dance major. She danced under the direction of Norma Pera, Deborah Robinson, Samantha Ordaz and Anton Wilson. She now continues as a Junior dance major at Coppin State University. She now dances under the direction of Vanessa Coles, Alice Howes, and Diedre Dawson. .

Though I have held several different positions through out my career in education, my desire to teach has remained constant. I feel I was put on earth to teach guided by the philosophy that all children and adults with the appropriate accommodation and modifications can learn. I have held true to this philosophy whether instructing students in an inclusion settings or teaching line dance in the performing arts arena

Dominique Hellgeth is a ceramic and mosaic artist working in Baltimore City since 2006. After earning her BFA in ceramics at the Maryland Institute College of Art, she has worked with Baltimore Clayworks as an Americorps member and then was hired on as a Teaching Artist. She believes that the joy of creating together contributes to a stronger and more beautiful community. Dominique has taught at many sites throughout Baltimore City. She is currently working with the Youth in Business program, at Jubilee Arts, guiding them in the creation of ceramic products and mosaic house numbers .

Dalvin Byron is a painter and printmaker. He received his BFA in fine arts from Messiah College. His current focus is portraiture. Through his portraits he seeks to honor his subjects, capture their inner power, and preserve the memory of his relationships with them. His prints are strongly influenced by German Expressionism. As the artist-in-residence at Jubilee Arts he seeks to give the youth of the community the opportunity to express themselves through creative projects and a way to refine their skills in creating fine art.

Jumoke Ajanku is a performing artist, musical educator and event manager. Ajanku has performed internationally from Canada to Bali to Gambia and more. He has performed opening acts for artist such as India Irie, Cee-Lo, Kanye West among many others. Additionally he is the musical director of Sankofa Dance Theatre based in Baltimore.

Loper is a mixed media visual artist. She has taught and managed innovative arts programs in parks, schools, community centers and non-profit organizations for over 10 years. Loper has a BA in Art and American Studies from the University of Minnesota and currently lives in Baltimore where she is an MFA Candidate in Community Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).

Karyn Lao is a multimedia artist whose work includes interactive performances, inflatable installations and whimsical illustrations. She received a BFA in Fiber at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore, Maryland. Karyn’s work examines human connectivity through color, materiality, environments, and play. She is currently the Artist-In-Residence for the Baltimore Orchard Project.

Megan Lewis is a professional illustrator. Utilizing various mediums, She aims to create works of art that focus upon stories that reflect a critical view of social, historical and cultural issues. Lewis is a freelance artist living in her hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, and has recently taken on the role as muralist, her latest mural “Lady Liberty Please Know Thy Self” made national news with singer Alicia keys on A&E Shining a Light: A Concert for Progress on Race in America. She was a 2014 – 2015 Urban Arts Leadership Member of the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance (UALP).

Lawrence Moore has been screen printing for the past five years, he has been teaching the art in a variety of mediums over the past three years. He received his Bachelors Degree from the University at Buffalo. He has been a staple in the Baltimore arts community through his Rollerskating collective “its My Skate Night”

Dee Satterfield, was born and raised on the Sandtown-Winchester, Baltimore City. She discovered yoga as a single mother in college and was inspired by yoga’s transformative ability to release hurt and pain; replacing with love and understanding of oneself. Satterfield completed her 200 hour Teacher Training at Charm City Yoga and instructs Restorative, Beginner, and Beginner Vinyasa Flow yoga

Haggins is an accomplished Step instructor who has led teams in the Lower East Side of New York City, Atlanta and now Baltimore. She formed the Divas and Gents Step team which ranked No. 1 for two years straight and were featured at the Apollo three times among other prestigious venues. Stepping is a tool she uses to empower young people to make the right decisions in life.

Michelle Antoinette Nelson, also known as LOVE the poet, is a photographer, actor, and in the field of creative writing education. She has appeared on CNN as a speaker at the Jena 6 rally in Washington, D.C., authored the book “Black Marks on White Paper”, is the recipient of the 2011 Baker b-grant award, released multiple spoken word CDs, and has performed at the Smithsonian & college campuses nationwide.

Rashamell Scott is a well-known dancer and producer in the Baltimore Club Scene. Scott has been dancing for 10 years and has been featured in music videos and numerous events. He is ranked as one of the Top 16 dancers in the annual “King Of Baltimore” Dance Competition four years straight and held two championships titles under B-More Than Dance.

Najah Hameed began dancing at age six with the Raynfall Dance Studio. She participated in the TWIGS program for youth at the Baltimore School For The Arts where she later attended high school. She is majored in Dance ballet and modern under the direction of Norma Pera, Deborah Robinson, Samantha Ordaz and Antoine Wilson. She has also took classes with the Dance Theatre of Harlem, Alvin Ailey and at the Peabody Institute.

Sophia Laurenzi is a ceramic installation artist from Memphis, TN, who graduated MICA with a BFA in Ceramics. She has a passion for visual expression, playing with processes, experimenting with materials, and being outside. She is currently working for Baltimore Clayworks in the Community Arts Department as an intern.

Mika Eubanks, an alum of the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA), graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree in Fiber and a concentration in Experimental Fashion. As a professional artist, Mika dedicates her time predominately working as a freelance costume and fashion designer, while she also teaches fashion and sewing at Jubilee Arts.

Emily Chow Bluck is an artist, community organizer, and graphic designer from New Jersey. She graduated from Scripps College in 2012 with a B.A. in Politics & International Relations. Her background in politics grounds the creative work she does in community. She is currently pursuing a M.F.A. in Community Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art while working as an artist-in-residence at Jubilee Arts.

Fire Angelou is a writer and spoken word artist from Baltimore, MD. For the last three years, she has been performing and teaching poetry. She is a columnist at international website, AFROPUNK, and Editor-in-chief of the online magazine, Daughters of the Diaspora. She has competed in various international poetry slam competitions. Through spoken word, memoirs, essays and sci-fi, she explores Black womanhood and the survival of the African Diaspora. Her works have been translated in Spanish and Portuguese. She has performed from southern California to New York City, across the midwest and internationally in Cuba. She believes that stories can change people.

Ubaldo is a Philippine-American music producer, graphic designer, and event organizer in Baltimore, MD. He is an artist and organizer of Llamadon Collective and Basement Rap Records. While he is often behind the scenes booking shows and making flyers he has recently come to create some of his most forward thinking music through the process of producing his own beats, experimenting with vocal and sound techniques, and taking full control of the recording process.

Sarah Henninger is an artist and designer from Virginia. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 2013. She is currently a member of the Community Art Collaborative at the Maryland Institute College of Art and an Artist-in-Residence for the Community Arts department at Baltimore Clayworks.

Sarah Edelsburg is a painter and illustrator, born and raised in New York City. She received her B.A. in Art History and Judaic Studies in 2006 from The George Washington University in Washington, DC and her M.A. in Community Arts in 2010 from Maryland Institute College of Art. She also works as an educator at The Walters Art Museum.

Sallah Jenkins is a ceramic artist, teacher, student, mom and grandma. Outside of Baltimore Clayworks she was once referred to as the Craft Queens of Baltimore by the Baltimore Sun. Sallah has also participated in Axis Alley, Theatre Project’s, Zippy the Pinhead, and Reginald Lewis Museum and Art annual Kwanzaa Program. Currently she is completing a BA degree in Urban Arts at the HBC Coppin State College.

Jewel Wilson has been a student of African and Caribbean Dance for the past 20 years. She enjoys teaching and has performance with companies across the Baltimore and Washington DC area.

Lynnette Rodgers has a background in fashion design and ceramics. She is the Community Arts Coordinator for Baltimore Clayworks and has been teaching for them for four years.

Ja’Naye Scott has been dancing since she was 6 years old. She has been dancing West African dance for 13 years and has been teaching for 3 years. She began dancing at ConneXions Leadership Academy. She has danced and performed with Sankofa Dance Theater and is a current member of Urban Foli. Ja’Naye is currently a 1^st grade teacher and continues to share the love and passion that she has for West African dance with others.
