Art at work: Sandtown, the collaboration of Jubilee Arts and Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, has come to an end. The dynamic five-week program that employed eighty Baltimore teenagers, ended with an amazing celebration. The event was held this past Saturday, August 1st and truly brought the community together in a beautiful way.
Families and friends cheered on each teen as they received certificates of achievement and sketchbooks. Live performance from ‘The Twilighter’s, a Baltimore marching band and rollerskating crew, It’s my Skate night, kept everyone entertained. Not to mention everyone got to munch on some delicious BBQ food while this all went down. Big thank-you’s were giving to all the funders, participants and teaching artists for making the entire program and celebration possible.
Between dancing to the DJ and stuffing our faces with food, there were the trolley tours. A beautiful white, antique trolley toured the families, friends and participants around to view all eight murals. As we approached each mural the participants who created the piece explained the meaning and details of their work.
As the celebration came to an end, it was obvious that the Art at work participants were proud of the work that they produced in such a short time. Art at Work has created lasting memories for everyone involved. All-in-all, Art at work was an amazing program that united the Sandtown community in a new way. That’s it folks, see ya’ next summer!
